Entrepreneurs’ Leadership Experiences with Specific Regard to Mentorship

Critical Evaluation:

This paper, written in 2017 by three graduate students at the RMIT University in Vietnam, explores mentorship in business by detailing a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between role modeling and entrepreneurial success. Robinson, VanderPal, and Nhat-Hoang make a point to emphasize that entrepreneurial leadership and mentorship is still in its infant research stages, meaning more developments and research studies are constantly occurring to acquire more information. This resource highlights how mentoring can occur in various methods, including teamwork, support, by example, and for success. The step by step guidance of individual mentees and mentors during each of these processes can be different, however they can also overlap. For example, in a team setting, organizational members must attain the goal together via the direction given by the group leader. With mentoring by example, mentees see their mentor as a role model, and ultimately work to mimic their business characteristics and corporate behaviors in order to achieve a similar amount of success as their mentor. Finally, this paper highlights how a commitment to the relationship is necessary within any mentor-mentee relationship in order to achieve success. This resource could be challenging to access for the general public, however the reading within it would be comprehensible for the average individual.
