Becoming an Entrepreneur: Researching the Role of Mentors in Identity Construction

Critical Evaluation:

This theoretical discussion published in 2012 focuses on how communities have the ability to provide resources that are crucial for the identity construction of entrepreneurs. Groups consisting of experienced entrepreneurs have formed, specifically The Mentor Network which is an educational program that is specifically designed to guide developing entrepreneurs and build their practical skill set. At the end of their paper, Dr. Rigg and Dr. O'Dwyer encouraged future researchers to conduct a longitudinal study following new entrepreneurs enrolled in an educational mentor intervention program, until they finish the program and or continuation of their business. The specific resource encouraged future research, unlike any other resources within this annotated bibliography. However, their conversation of mentoring networks and obtaining and maintaining a practical entrepreneur entrepreneurial skill set, has been discussed in many other similar resources.
