Introduction to Effective Mentorship for Early-Career Research Scientists

Critical Evaluation:

Published in 2021, this Scholarly article highlights successful research that has been conducted using the ‘Entering Mentoring’ training curriculum framework. Similar to other resources within this annotated bibliography, ‘Entering Mentoring’ is a training program for entrepreneurs and other individuals looking to increase skills and demonstrate behaviors required for successful mentoring relationships. Successful mentoring relationships are defined by addressing issues of equity and inclusion, aligning expectations between both parties, and maintaining effective communication. This particular resource stands out as it highlights how important it is to have effective communication between a mentor and a mentee. Additionally, authors state five specific learning objectives of the workshop that are emphasized in order to produce positive mentoring relationships. This resource is not easily available to the public, and is slightly complex in order to follow along and understand. However, it would be especially helpful for early entrepreneurs to dive into, As it would help them better understand what is necessary in a mentoring relationship, and also provide a potential training program for them to participate in.
