Black Student Union

This initiative was a collaborative effort involving a team of six individuals, including myself, focused on creating a cohesive and impactful brand identity for the Black Student Union. The project included designing a logo, establishing values, and crafting a communication strategy to engage members and foster inclusivity, which resulted in a 19 page technical writing style how-to guide. The branding emphasized celebrating diversity, promoting cultural awareness, and building a strong community presence through events, social media, and outreach campaigns. This initiative aimed to amplify the voice of the BSU and strengthen its impact on campus.

Here’s a list of accomplishments in my final year as President:

  • Transitioned average meeting attendance from 20 attendees to 45 attendees

  • Set a record-high attendance at a general meeting (65 attendees!!)

  • Set a record-high attendance at our annual Black Tie Affair (200+ attendees!!)

  • Expanded and solidified our brand and long term goals: Educate, Encourage, and Empower.

  • Created BSU crewnecks and mugs that are now seen and promoted all over campus!

  • When our members voiced wanting more meetings, we constructed ‘BSU Round Table’, which became a time to share thoughts, work on homework, and just enjoy each other’s company.

  • Started a tradition of a beginning of school ‘kickback’ event to allow students to learn about BSU in an environment with games, food, and community

  • Hosted multiple on-campus events including a trap ’n paint, hot chocolate promotional event, a tie dye event with UF’s United club, our kickback, Soul Food Night, and our Black Tie Affair.

  • Expanded our club and created a safe space for students, faculty, and staff to come and ask questions, learn, and be apart of something bigger thats working to make a change.
